Hospital Foundation Launches New Campaign To Recruit ER Doctors

It was an evening of gratitude hosted by the Cornwall Hospital Foundation at Eight Zero Zero last night that saw doctors, administration and donors of the Cornwall Community Hospital come together and learn about the new campaign to train and attract doctors to Cornwall.

The “Adopt A Medical Resident” was launched last night.

It’s a partnership with Queen’s University that will see a resident come to Cornwall for 6 months for training. Once that is complete and he or she finished their studies they will be committed to working in the emergency department here for a minimum of 2 years with the hope they will choose to stay.

It comes at a cost of $135,000 per year which the hospital foundation will help raise. It will happen for the next three years.  Last night CCH CEO Jeanette Despatie announces the hospital will match the dollars in year one to add another resident to the list.

There seems to be plenty of interest with 142 applicant for the Cornwall gig which was brought down to 44. Further paired down to 17 candidates who will all be interviewed this Friday.
