A petition is circling around social media pleading Maroon 5, Travis Scott and Big Boi to take a knee during their halftime performance.
The official petition is on change.org and so far, it has over 85,000 signatures. The description on the petition is trying to pull at the performers heart strings and it comments on the current political climate.
Show the hundreds of millions of people watching that you stand in solidarity with Kaepernick and all players who protest police brutality. Use this opportunity to force the NFL to change their policy.
The petition also states that they don’t want the performers to back out of the halftime show, but to just simply “take a knee” during their sets. It has taken the NFL a long time locking down an act for the 53rd halftime show. Originally, the league wanted Adele, Cardi B, P!nk and Jay-Z, but they all declined.
It came out yesterday that the only reason Travis Scott, who shares a child with Kylie Jenner, is performing is because the NFL has agreed to donate $500,000.00 to a charity of his choice. He told PEOPLE magazine that he was doing a positive in a negative situation.
I back anyone who takes a stand for what they believe in. I know being an artist that it’s in my power to inspire. So before confirming the Super Bowl Halftime performance, I made sure to partner with the NFL on this important donation. I am proud to support Dream Corps and the work they do that will hopefully inspire and promote change.
The Dream Corps is a charity in the United States and it focuses on helping underprivileged youth, reducing the prison population and to create effective alternative sentencing programs and to build a green economy that helps every class in America.
What do you think? Do you think Maroon 5, Travis Scott and Big Boi should be taking a knee during the Super Bowl halftime show? Let us know in the comments!
